Join Us in Building a Better Kalamazoo, One Home at a Time

Volunteers are essential to our mission, and we value the unique skills and experiences each person brings. We are committed to providing a safe, engaging, and rewarding volunteer experience, with a variety of opportunities to match different interests and skill levels.

Volunteer Opportunities

Core Volunteer

Commit to volunteering 1–3 days per week on construction and home repair projects. Core Volunteers work alongside staff and other volunteers to help build and repair homes for local families. Training, tools, and safety equipment are provided.

Core Volunteers become familiar with Habitat’s projects, processes, and mission, allowing them to take on a greater role in supporting project completion and mentoring newer volunteers. This opportunity is ideal for individuals looking for a consistent, hands-on way to make a lasting impact in the community while developing new skills and building relationships with fellow volunteers.

ReStore Volunteer

ReStore Volunteers help support the daily operations of the Habitat ReStore. Volunteer opportunities may include assisting customers, organizing and stocking merchandise, pricing items, testing donated goods, cleaning and preparing donations for sale, creating displays, and helping maintain a safe and welcoming shopping environment.

ReStore volunteering is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with people, staying active, organizing, or supporting Habitat’s mission in a non-construction setting. Volunteers play a vital role in turning donated items into resources that help local families achieve safe and affordable housing.

Leadership Volunteers

Leadership Volunteers support the organization through fundraising, community outreach, advocacy, and strategic planning. Opportunities may include serving as a Habitat Ambassador at community events, helping connect donors and supporters to our mission, assisting with special events and fundraising committee, or serving on the Board or a program committee.

Whether participating in a one-time opportunity or taking on an ongoing leadership role, Leadership Volunteers help shape KVHH’s long-term success and expand our impact in the community. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who want to support affordable housing beyond the construction site and make a lasting difference through leadership and engagement.

Corporate Impact Builds

Looking for a meaningful team-building experience that gives back to the community? A Corporate Impact Build offers your employees the opportunity to work side-by-side with KVHH staff, volunteers, and future homeowners to help build safe, affordable housing for local families.

No construction experience is required. Habitat provides the tools, safety equipment, training, and project supervision needed for a successful volunteer experience.

Businesses and organizations can participate through a sponsorship that helps fund the construction of homes and critical home repairs while providing hands-on volunteer opportunities for employees.

Build days are available throughout the year and can be tailored to your team’s schedule and goals.
