Job Title: Volunteer Services Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Volunteer Services Coordinator recruits individuals and groups of volunteers, helps volunteers get involved with Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity (KVHH), and works with volunteers and staff to ensure productive and positive volunteer experiences throughout the organization. This includes participation in: home construction, ReStore operations, fundraising, public relations, and administration activities. At the same time, the Volunteer Services Coordinator manages volunteer resources to ensure that the organization’s needs are fulfilled. The Volunteer Services Coordinator is a professional, 40 hour per week full-time position, including some evening and weekend hours.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Program
 Produce written informational and educational materials for volunteer outreach
 Respond to all individual volunteer inquiries
 Meet with construction staff
 Interview and place volunteers for specific needs such as committee, office and special events
 Scheduling of groups and skilled volunteers
 Maintain volunteer records and statistics of number of volunteers and number of hours served
 Maintain regular contact with the WMU Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter
 Develop and implement formal and informal volunteer appreciation program
 Develop, maintain and evaluate “regular” construction volunteer programs to retain on-going volunteers
 Monitor and assess the need for volunteer services and suggest program improvements.
 Monitor volunteer satisfaction
 Oversee food, staging and related logistics for builds
 Ensure that volunteer liability waivers are signed and filed
 Work with staff to handle any volunteer concerns or issues
 Provide up-to-date information for the construction and volunteer pages of the affiliate website
 Manage community service volunteers from local jurisdictions

Construction
 Motivating and providing on-site instruction and leadership to volunteer work groups
 Ensure volunteer safety and enforce all applicable safety guidelines on construction

Administrative and Other Tasks
 Work closely with sponsors, Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) and other organizations on special projects and builds
 Represent Habitat to the community through community presentations
 Establish and maintain effective relationships with sponsors, HFHI, and the community
 Promote teamwork and foster motivation and understanding
 Contribute to newsletter for volunteer related articles
 Other responsibilities as assigned by Executive Director
 Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, waivers, and other necessary paperwork
 Ensure that volunteer information is entered and updated regularly in our data base
 Follow personnel and other agency policies and procedures
 Work as a member of the KVHH staff team in support of our mission

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:
 2 years’ experience in the field of volunteer management or equivalent combination of experience, education and training desired
 College degree or equivalent preferred
 Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
 Excellent interpersonal communication skills and public speaking experience
 Knowledge, skill, and experience in working with volunteers and as a volunteer
 Proven skills and commitment to working with people of diverse backgrounds
 Knowledge, skill, and experience working with Microsoft Office computer applications required
 Knowledge, skill, and experience working with web based software and on-line applications required
 Must have reliable transportation
 Must be willing to work weekends and evenings as needed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is split between an office and construction worksite. Outside meetings and presentations are frequently required. Some evening and weekend meetings required in locations and times when public transportation is unavailable.

Position Description:   Merchandiser/ Cashier

Reports to:                      ReStore Manager

Job Classification:         Part-Time

Hours:                              Varied shifts including days and weekends (20hrs per week)

Location:                          7612 S. Westnedge Ave. Portage, MI 49002

Description

 The Merchandiser/Cashier works to ensure that all merchandise on the sales floor is clean, priced, and in the right location. Will also provide excellent customer service to ReStore customers and donors. Will provide cashiering services when appropriate and arrange for merchandise loading/pick up.

Major Responsibilities

  • Make sure that all merchandise that is on the sales floor is clean and priced.
  • Operate Sales Counter.
  • Greet arriving and departing customers.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all ReStore shoppers and donors.
  • Supervise volunteers daily.
  • Helps to maintain and clean a well-organized store and facilitate a safe and secure working and shopping environment.

General Duties

  • Checkout customers using our point of sale system.
  • Handle cash and credit card transactions.
  • Stock merchandise; rotate and face merchandise on shelves.
  • Assist customers by locating merchandise.
  • Answer phones when needed.
  • Organize and lead volunteers on a daily basis.
  • Answer questions regarding products and home projects.

Key Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Able to work independently and under supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of home improvement materials.
  • Ability to project a friendly and positive image of Habitat for Humanity.
  • Detail oriented.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent bending and lifting.
  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment.
  • Frequent and proper lifting of up to 50 lbs.
