Job Opening: Warehouse Worker/Donation Truck Driver

Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity (KVHH) ReStore is seeking a part-time Warehouse Worker and Donation Truck Driver to work 30 hours a week Monday through Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm during store hours.

This individual will be responsible for riding in and/or driving our Habitat ReStore truck to pick up donated items from residences and businesses, while interacting professionally and courteously with donors and customers. Additional responsibilities include loading and unloading vehicles by hand and using pallet jack/forklift, general warehouse work, miscellaneous maintenance and cleaning, customer assistance in the retail store when not on the truck, and other tasks as assigned.

Applicants must have a clean driving record, possess a valid chauffeur license, and be able to lift 50 – 80 pounds. Professional driving experience is a plus.

Applicants must pass an auto insurance screening and a mandatory background check prior to employment.

Job Opening: Program Manager

Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity (KVHH) is seeking a caring individual who embraces Habitat’s mission to mentor homeowners throughout the process, including recruiting new families, selecting, and educating homeowners (new construction and repairs), and supporting them post-purchase.

Hours: 40 hours per week – Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Pay: $40,000 per year, including benefits

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct effective outreach to attract and recruit new families interested in housing, ensuring there is a steady pipeline of potential candidates.
  • Coordinate with community partner agencies to create a pipeline of homeowner candidates.
  • Create and implement new, creative ways to publicize KVHH services and attract new candidates.
  • Attend regular community events to promote KVHH and answer questions.
  • Coordinate, advertise and conduct meetings with neighborhood associations and other groups.
  • Produce and revise outreach materials as needed.
  • Develop, continuously evaluate, and improve all human service and homeowner programming in accordance with best practices and HFHI/HFHM requirements.
  • Consult with partners regarding construction plans, progress, and home amenities, per KVHH policies.
  • Communicate with prospective homeowners if they are not meeting program requirements and collaboratively develop plans for successful participation. Enforce these plans, and, if necessary, deselect families according to policy.
  • Apply for appraisal, talk with insurance agents on behalf of families if needed, and schedule moving date.
  • Prepare families for closing, attend the closing, and provide house keys.
  • Plan open house party event before move-in date and organize gifts and picture in front of house.
  • Review and update the Homeowner Services Handbook as needed.
  • Answer mortgage questions and resolve mortgage issues, such as land contracts, recording the deed, etc.
  • Coordinate, in cooperation with Executive Director, affiliate response to major legal/financial issues that arise with existing homeowners.
  • Assist with the homeowner repair process as needed.

Other

  • Provide timely and accurate reports on families in the program (i.e., demographics, number of participants in homeowner and repairs, etc.), along with required reports for the State and National organizations.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key non-profits, businesses, churches, and other organizations
  • Conduct presentations to educate those in community about the KVHH mission.
  • Actively participate in HFHI/HFHM forums related to homeowner services.
  • Maintain active relationships with homeowner services counterparts at other HFH affiliates.
  • Maintain or participate in all required and appropriate certifications, trainings, knowledgebases, documentation, and conferences.
  • Fulfill all requirements/obligations to keep affiliate in good standing with HFHI/HFHM.
  • Seek out new programs and education that could benefit our homeowner and home repair partners.
  • Attend staff, committee and other meetings as required.
  • Other duties as needed to meet organizational goals.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in human services, housing services or related experience is required.
  • Some experience with Habitat is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and other Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs with comfort level to learn, maintain and run reports; along with proficiency in the use of smart-phone technology.
  • Excellent customer service skills required, including telephone and email etiquette to respond to calls/emails with timely and accurate information.
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds, always treating people with respect and dignity, along with actively cultivating an inclusive working environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively listen and communicate with others and to compile written documentation and significant communications with participants. Multiple languages and sign language is not required, but beneficial.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships and be a caring individual with ability to instruct, facilitate, and mentor families.
  • Ability to learn the processes and documentation required to achieve home ownership, along with initiative to continue learning and to find creative approaches to solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organization and time management skills and solid attention to detail to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects, and track key processes.
  • A positive attitude, team player and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • 18 years of age or older with valid driver’s license and ability to provide self-transportation to home sites.
