Habitat ReStore Celebrates Earth Day April 22

The Habitat ReStore will celebrate Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, with some special activities at the store, 7612 S. Westnedge Ave., Portage.

Need help recycling old cans of latex paint? The Habitat ReStore is hosting a paint recycling event. The public can drop off cans of latex paint at the store on Saturday only, 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Donated latex paint will be recycled into E-Paint®, which is sold in Habitat ReStores throughout Michigan and the Midwest.

Every day is a good day to shop at the Habitat ReStore. A new reusable Habitat ReStore shopping bag will be free with a purchase to the first 50 customers on Earth Day. All shoppers can enter a drawing to win a free, new carpet runner or a paint supply basket.

“We want to celebrate Earth Day and remind the public of the many ways the Habitat ReStore supports and benefits the community,” Habitat ReStore Manager Michaelyn Denny said. “Making a donation to the ReStore is a great way to celebrate Earth Day. Our inventory depends on the community. Since our Habitat ReStore opened in 2005, we’ve saved more than 4 million pounds of waste from local landfills.”

“We hope that everyone thinks of us while they are doing their spring cleaning, too,” Denny said. “Before you take an item to curb, remember we might be able to ‘save’ it from the landfill and give it a new life.”

“Many people are surprised to learn that everyone can shop at the Habitat ReStore,” Denny said. “We ask everyone to shop the Habitat ReStore for home improvement materials, supplies, furniture, appliances, and more. All profits help Habitat for Humanity build and repair homes.”

The Habitat ReStore is located at 7612 S. Westnedge, Portage, and is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Donations are accepted during those hours. The Habitat ReStore will pick up large items for free upon request. For more information on donations or to request a pickup, call the Donation Hotline: 269-381-5523.
