Habitat to Host Three Homeownership Orientations This Week

Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity (Habitat) will host three orientation meetings on its affordable homeownership program this week. The sessions will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Neighborhood Association, 3320 Laird Ave., Kalamazoo, Wednesday, March 29, 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Edison Neighborhood Association, 816 Washington Ave., Kalamazoo, and on Thursday, March 30, 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Eastside Neighborhood Association, 1301 E. Main St., Kalamazoo. The informational, 60-minute session outlines Habitat’s affordable homeownership program and application process. The sessions are free and open to the public and designed for adult participants only. Child care is not provided. To reserve a spot, individuals may call: 269-344-2443, ext. 204. Anyone who needs special accommodations to participate in the session or requires a translator is asked to call in advance.

Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity builds 4-5 decent, affordable homes each year in partnership with qualified future homeowners. Habitat builds and rehabilitates homes in locations where future homeowners, volunteers, affordable lots and/or rehab-able homes, and funding are available. Habitat sells its homes without profit and provides an affordable mortgage. Qualified applicants must need better housing, be able to repay the mortgage Habitat provides, and be willing to partner with Habitat to complete the program requirements. Applicants also must meet income guidelines determined annually by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
