Construction Site Supervisor
Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity is seeking a part time, on call construction site supervisor. This is a new position. This person will prepare construction sites and supervise volunteers in the construction of new homes, rehab of existing homes, and critical home repairs.
This person should have an extensive background in construction work and a passion for helping others in Habitat's non-profit work of eliminating substandard housing and improving the communities in which we live. Habitat strives to provide volunteers with a safe and positive experience, and this candidate must strictly adhere to safety regulations and company policies, and be able to work with diverse groups of people.
The ideal candidate will have: excellent communication skills, a passion for working with and fostering relationships with other people, and a deep knowledge of all of the systems of a home and how they work together for health, safety, and energy efficiency for the occupants.
- Experience in residential construction and trades
- History of quality work and customer service

AmeriCorps Construction Assistant
Habitat for Humanity Michigan AmeriCorps Construction Assistant is a part-time, 12-month (minimum 900 hours over the course of the term) position. The assistant will assist in supporting Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity’s (Habitat) efforts in the construction of new and rehabilitated homes and home repair projects. The candidate must be available to work weekdays as well as most Thursday evenings and Saturdays.
The Construction Assistant will:
Assist Habitat construction staff with construction activities.
o Provide supervision of volunteers on worksites with an emphasis on volunteer safety, quality of work, and adherence to Habitat policies and procedures.
o Assist in the setup and preparation of worksites for daily activities.
o Train and support new volunteers on the worksite.
Assist Habitat staff with process and procedure projects
o Working with other Habitat construction staff, enforcement of a formal safety program.
o Assist with the writing of site policies and procedures.
o Other projects as assigned by the Habitat construction manager
Qualifications and Requirements:
High school diploma required.
Comfortable with manual labor and physical tasks.
Comfortable working on home building and construction sites.
Knowledge, skill, and experience in working with volunteers.
Experience and skill in working with people of diverse backgrounds.
Must have good creativity and professional writing skills.
Must have own transportation. Habitat trucks can be used as available.
